April 1, 2018 marked a momentous day for SkillEd India. In preparation for the launch of the SkillEd Pilot project in 100 schools of Haryana, principals of these government schools were invited for an orientation and interaction. The orientation program was held at the Manav Rachna International University campus and simultaneously, vocational trainers from the respective schools were being trained at Kunskapsskolan Gurgaon campus for a period of five days.
Eminent personalities from the field of education and from our partner organisations graced the occasion along with principals and other representatives from around 85 government schools in Haryana.
Shri K.K. Agnihotri, Honorary Advisor, Education Department, School Division Haryana delivered a note on the importance of the Skilling Project. He reiterated the fact that the role of the principals was important as they would be the driving force behind the implementation of the program in their respective schools.
Mr. Rajiv Mathur shared a detailed introduction of the project and how it would it be a game changer, also sharing the timeliness of the project with respect to providing the learning portal right at the start of the academic year.
Dr. V.S. Mehrotra, Professor and Head, Curriculum Development and Evaluation Centre (CDSE) and NSQF Cell, PSS-CIVE, NCERT shared new ways in skilling with reference to the project.
Ms. Annu Wadhwa, CEO- Beauty and Wellness, Sector Skill Council spoke about how skilling leads to employability as well as opens up scope for self-employment.
Mr. Basab Banerjee, Consultant and Specialist, Skill Development, Asian Development Bank highlighted that developed countries such as Japan have a growing need for skilled manpower, and to meet this demand, we need to skill our youth.
Ms Sunitha Nambiar, CEO Kunskapsskolan India spoke about the KED philosophy and how the SkillEd project is an effort to integrate the core aspects of KED methodology into the blended learning model.
The orientation of the principals was also attended by Dr. Sanjay Srivastava, Managing Director, MREI and Vice Chancellor, Manav Rachna University, Lars-Erik Odén, then Project Head SkillEd India; Kenneth Nyman, Deputy CEO Kunskapsskolan India, Ms Sabreena Talwar, Head of Kunskapsskolan School Gurgaon, Mr. Amit Bhatnagar, Director – Career and Skills, MREI, Ms Rekha Menon, Deputy Head – Education Initiatives, NSDC and Ms Ritu Gupta, Director- Portal Management, Kunskapsskolan India.
The video that showcased the essentials of the SkillEd Project was well received by the audience. Ms Stuti Tiwari, Training Manager, SkillEd India, explained the framework of the Learning Portal along with a simple step-by-step demonstration of navigating through the learning portal.
Enthusiastic principals shared their experiences with vocational training in their schools and expressed their delight about the pilot project in helping their students learn better and be more skilled. The principals interacted with the SkillEd team and self-navigated through their students’ future SkillEd learning portal.
