After the first successful training of vocational teachers conducted in March 2018, another training was organised by SkillEd India in June 2018. The training was conducted at the Kunskapsskolan School in Gurgaon and was once again attended by around 200 teachers from 100 government schools of Haryana. These were teachers teaching Retail, Beauty & Wellness and IT & ITeS in their schools. This time, the training was for three days.

The objective of the training was to apprise the teachers of the developments in the SkillEd project and to give them more hands-on sessions on the following:

  • Teaching-learning strategies
  • KED Methodology
  • Familiarization with the Learning Portal
  • Life Skills
  • Employability Skills
  • Industry Expert Lectures
  • Formative Assessment and Feedback
  • Importance of their role as Teachers

The participants were continuously engaged through ice breakers, energizers, group discussions, team games, activities of situational analyses, art activities and more.  They created a blended learning classroom as a team activity, where they demonstrated their understanding of a student-centric classroom, engaged in role plays of regular classroom situations and role plays of real life situations in their respective sectors such as a difficult situation faced at work by a Retail Associate or a Data Entry Operator or a Beauty Therapist. They were also provided with an ID and password to login to the SkillEd Learning Portal and navigate through it on their phones and on the laptops in the Kunskapsskolan computer labs.

Through these trainings, not only have we prepared the vocational teachers to be able to access the digital curriculum on the SkillEd portal and understand how it has to be an integral part of vocational education in their schools, but also to take their learning of different strategies for teaching into their classrooms for better student engagement and performance.
